The Megalodon van build was inspired by family. The Need for van to suitable accommodate a family of 4 to 6 people, while on a standard driving license, and keeping the footprint fairly small for ease of driving. Being aimed at kids, the bunkbed layout was the chosen sleep orientation for space saving and entertainment purposes. The compact layout ensure maximum sleeping comfort for each bed, while doubling as an extended social area.

Weight was always a concern with a build of this nature. Being a long wheelbase high top van the loading capacity was already reduced, with the addition of the increased human capacitance. Some design aspect needed to be compromised on aesthetics and function to keep weight to a minimal, such as cupboard doors and a dinning table.

The rear shower area was the biggest challenge, as to ensure complete water tightness into the cabin area. several measures were put in place to ensure any water ingress would channel back out in the event any seals didn’t sufficiently stop the water.

The construction of the bunk bed was the most enjoyable. From an engineering perspective, collaborating all the beds into one structure great reduced weight, while dramatically increasing strength.
